Why Is There Evil if God Exists?

If God is both absolutely powerful and ultimately good, why is there so much evil in the world? How can the sheer magnitude of suffering, injustice, and what often appears to be pointless pain be reconciled with the existence of a God who is both all-powerful and all-loving? Does the reality of evil make belief in such a God intellectually indefensible—or even morally repugnant? And are we justified in assuming that a God worthy of worship would, or even should, eliminate all suffering?

Sam Raju, psychologist and philosopher from the US, has himself experienced a rare and aggressive form of cancer. That fueled his interest to study the question of God and suffering.
